Featuring striking color patterns, the leaves emerge bright yellow in spring, then transition into dark green centers, and then finally darkening to solid dark green. Not only does this magical change appear on the leaves, but the shape of each leaf resembles a trident which further adds interest to this shrub. In summer, large lavender to purple single flowers with dark red centers appear and are a favorite for bees! Note: Althea is considered a woody shrub or tree and will not die back to the ground in winter like hardy hibiscus.
